Understanding ANSI Visibility Standards

The ANSI/ISEA visibility standards aim to make evaluating the safety and performance of high-visibility clothing easier. These standards address garment design, reflective material placement, and color requirements to ensure workers remain visible in diverse conditions and industries.

These visibility standards are complex due to the wide range of applications for high-visibility apparel. However, it is vital to understand the differences between different ANSI classes and types to find the proper PPE for specific work environments.

Garment Types

High visibility garment types are designated by the work enviornment in which workers are performing specific tasks. When combined with the existing Performance Classes, this standard provides safety managers with an expanded range of protection levels that address more hazards. These garment types include:

High Visibility Safety Classes & Ratings

The ANSI/ISEA 107-2020 standard defines high-visibility safety apparel classes to ensure worker safety.

  • Class 2 garments enhance visibility for workers near roadways with traffic over 25 mph, like construction workers.
  • Class 3 garments provide the highest visibility for high-risk environments with high-speed traffic, such as highway maintenance.
  • Class E garments, including pants and gaiters, are supplemental and must be paired with Class 2 or 3 garments to achieve a Class 3 rating.

Visibility in Every Outdoor Setting

High-visibility clothing is crucial in outdoor working conditions, especially during dawn, dusk, or during snow or rain. When workers are alongside moving vehicles, high-visibility gear doesn't only reduce the risk of accidents, it also enhances their peace of mind for more productive work.

Maximize Visibility & Protection

Emphasizing ANSI Class 2 and Class 3 Type R equipment, Majestic strives to provide America's workers maximum visibility and protection. We continuously innovate with our high-visibility garments, incorporating features such as glow-in-the-dark materials, new sizing and stretch options for women, cooling fabrics, and water-resistant materials.

The Difference High Visiblity Makes

Navigating the various classes and types of high-visibility gear can be understandably challenging, but finding the right equipment for your team is crucial. Proper high-visibility apparel does more than reduce the risk of injuries; it enhances your team's overall productivity by ensuring that workers feel safe and confident in their environment. This security allows them to focus better on their tasks, leading to more efficient and effective work.
